Living with Type 1 Diabetes is neither easy nor fair, especially for teenagers. That’s why last year, Augur, in partnership with the Swedish Childhood Diabetes Foundation and tech partner Causality Agency, embarked on a mission to make life a bit easier for these young individuals.
The development of this app was a truly collaborative effort, with children and teenagers with Type 1 Diabetes actively involved at every stage. Their input shaped everything from the discussion topics and tone to user interface and graphic design, ensuring the app is tailored to their specific needs.
Navigating Teenage years with Type 1 Diabetes
The app provides a unique space for teenagers with Type 1 Diabetes to connect with others who share their journey. Here, they can exchange experiences, offer support, and find encouragement from peers who understand exactly what they’re going through. This supportive community not only helps with self-care but also complements the medical care provided at hospitals, making life for these teenagers more manageable and enjoyable.
Ambassador Program and Youth-Driven Design
To keep the app vibrant and engaging in its initial months, an ambassador program was implemented. This program ensures that the app remains an active, living community.
One of the key pieces of feedback from the youth involved in the development was the importance of creating a safe space free from interference by doctors, healthcare professionals, or parents who might offer unwanted advice. The presence of the Swedish Childhood Diabetes Foundation ensures that the app remains grounded in knowledge and expertise while allowing the teenagers to connect and support each other in their own way.
